Horror Lab: Bodies, Fear, & Performance

A devised, immersive horror tea party

You’re invited to a tea party where something is very wrong. In this immersive devised performance, Lab Artists serves a series of eerie vignettes, using bodies, space, and ritual to test how horror can live onstage without jump scares or special effects

The Horror Lab: Bodies, Fear & Performance is the culminating performance of a practice-as-research project led by emBODY project Theatre. Over several months, an ensemble of artists used the emBODY Performance Method to investigate a core question: What happens when horror is built from bodies and space instead of relying on blood, tricks, or sound cues?

The result is an immersive, horror-filled tea party that serves a series of eerie vignettes. Each piece grows out of studio experiments with breath, posture, repetition, proximity, and the subtle ways fear moves through a room. Rather than mining personal trauma, the ensemble worked with shared images, cultural scripts, and the pressures that haunt everyday life.

Part performance and part live experiment, The Horror Lab invites audiences to sit inside the genre as it’s being tested in real time. Horror here is not about gore. It’s about tension, etiquette gone wrong, and the unsettling feeling that the room itself is paying attention.

Faust: Pacts, Power, & Embodied Desire

A devised adaptation of the Faust myth

What would you trade away to get what you want most?
In this devised adaptation of the Faust myth, emBODY project Ensemble weaves text, movement, and music into a physical exploration of bargains, desire, and the cost of ambition. Drawing on classic Faust stories and contemporary pressures, the ensemble asks who gets to make a deal, who pays for it, and what happens when the body itself becomes part of the contract.

Faust: Pacts, Power, and Embodied Desire pulls the legendary tale of Faust out of the library and into the body.

Developed through the emBODY Performance Method, this devised ensemble production draws from public-domain versions of Goethe’s Faust and Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus, then fractures and recomposes them for now. Text, image, and movement collide as the ensemble investigates what it means to trade away power, safety, or future for knowledge, status, pleasure, or survival.

Roles blur and multiply. Faust, Gretchen, Mephistopheles, and the chorus of onlookers move through different bodies across the night, asking:

Who gets to make a pact and walk away clean?
Whose desire is seen as visionary, and whose is called selfish or dangerous?
How do debt, labor, gender, and class quietly shape every “choice” on the table?

Through physical storytelling, choral text, and charged stage pictures, Faust: Pacts, Power, and Embodied Desire treats the body as the place where every bargain lands. It’s a story about ambition, yes, but also about exhaustion, temptation, and the quiet question humming underneath so many lives: What is the real price of getting what you think you want?
